As our SW Trainee, Perception, you'll immediately become a valued part of the Horizontal Transportation (HT) Automation R&D software team in Tampere. In this role, you'll contribute to current perception R&D activities including experimentation and software development involving various classical and state-of-the art computer vision methods to gain hands-on experience in applying them in real life applications.
This is a fixed-term position, located in Tampere. The trainee period typically runs from May to August, with exact timing to be mutually agreed upon with your manager.
What are your key responsibilities:
Build & Experiment: Execute day-to-day tasks/activities related to ongoing R&D projects and other experiments. These tasks may include for example software development, data collection and processing and machine learning model research.
Collaborate & Coordinate: Proactively communicate and participate in team day-to-day work by sharing your own work and providing feedback to others.
Learning & Development: Actively apply and acquire skills in the field of software development and machine learning related to computer vision applications.
Continuous Improvement: Proactively look for new and novel ideas on how to resolve different problems faced in your day-to-day work.

What you bring to the role:
Educational Background: You are currently studying towards a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Robotics, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent field, and are eager to apply your academic knowledge in a practical, hands-on environment.
Early Experience & Curiosity: Previous experience from similar roles, internships, student projects, or other coding projects is considered an advantage, but not required - your motivation, curiosity, and willingness to learn matter most.
Proactive & Learning-Oriented Mindset: You bring a positive, can-do attitude and are enthusiastic about developing your skills and capabilities in a talented team of computer vision, machine learning and software development experts.
Technical & Analytical Competencies: You have proficiency or practical knowledge in programming languages such as Python and/or C++, machine learning fundamentals and frameworks such as Pytorch, and basic Linux terminal and git skills. You are enthusiastic about learning new tools, methods, or technologies relevant to near real-time perception applications.
Strong Communication & Collaboration Skills: You communicate effectively in English and enjoy working collaboratively with others in a team-oriented, international environment.
