We are looking for a General Manager, Environment with a main responsibility in developing Wärtsilä's overall environmental agenda, substance management and management system framework. The preferred location for this position is Helsinki, Finland, but other Wärtsilä locations in Finland can be considered. We offer a possibility for hybrid work.

Your role and responsibilities

As a General Manager, Environment, you will be responsible for developing and driving Wärtsilä's environmental agenda substance management, environmental management framework and building strong environmental expertise across the organization. The role covers corporate-level frameworks as well as close collaboration with the businesses on topical environmental matters. You'll be working as part of the Public Affairs and Sustainability team with diverse expertise.

Your work will focus on these responsibilities:

Developing Wärtsilä's environmental agenda and ways of working

Owning and developing the overall environmental management framework, including corporate-level policies and instructions related to environmental management systems

Substance management

Developing environmental performance monitoring metrics

Supporting businesses in topical environmental matters

Building and strengthening environmental expertise across the organization

Owning and developing environmental training and communication frameworks

To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:

Relevant academic degree (e.g. M.Sc.) and 10+ years of experience in environmental management and development, preferably in an international corporate environment

Strong knowledge and preferably hands-on experience in substance management, chemical compliance, circular economy, waste and effluent management, energy usage, pollution prevention and biodiversity

Demonstrated ability to drive change initiatives and company-wide environmental and substance management projects in an international corporate environment ensuring stakeholder buy-in and clear communication

Fluent written and spoken English; other languages are an advantage

A self-driven, proactive, and collaborative mindset
