Job Summary
Salary Period: Monthly
Contract Type: Full time, Permanent
Take ownership of electrically demanding test systems combining high-power drive technology and real-world engineering. In this role, your work is not purely design on paper – you will see how the systems you design are built, tested, and used in practice.
Sandvik is currently looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its technology unit in Tampere. The role is part of a specialized development area focusing on test systems used in connection with rock drills. The recruitment process is managed by Barona Engineering, and the selected candidate will be employed directly by Sandvik.
The Rock Drills Technology Unit is responsible for the product development, supply and support of premium rock drill offering for Surface Drilling and Underground Drilling applications as well as for global aftermarket and service. Our expertise in best-in-class rock drilling technology is recognized globally, and it drives us to continue excel through innovation in rock drills, digital products and supply chain excellence. We pride ourselves on delivering the most reliable rock drills in the world that meet and exceed customer safety and productivity needs.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for the specification, design and development of Rock Drill Technology Units product testing systems, including high-power motor drives and demanding electrical environments.
You will take ownership of the electrical engineering scope and work closely with a multidisciplinary team in an international environment.
Your main responsibilities include:
- Specification, design and commissioning of a drill test bench system
- Complete electrical system design including motor drives, control and measurement systems, and layouts
- Designing systems in accordance with EN60204-1 standards
- Participation in system testing and validation activities
- Collaboration within Sandvik’s global organization.
The work is primarily carried out in an engineering office environment using Sandvik tools, with a comprehensive onboarding period at Sandvik’s Myllypuro site in Tampere.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a senior-level electrical engineering professional who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of technically complex solutions. You have built your experience in industrial environments and have a strong understanding of electrical power systems and motor drives. In addition to solid technical competence, success in this role requires a hands-on mindset and the ability to solve problems pragmatically.
Experience with commissioning and system validation is important, as the role extends beyond design into implementation and verification. Familiarity with instrumentation is also relevant. You are used to working in an international environment and are able to communicate effectively in English.
Strong working knowledge of E3 and Teamcenter is essential in this position. These tools are a central part of the design process, and the ability to use them effectively – or to adopt them quickly at a senior level – is critical for success.
In addition, experience in areas such as power electronics, AC systems, or similar industrial technologies can be considered an advantage, as can familiarity with Sandvik’s tools or operating environment. However, above all, we value a proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and the capability to take responsibility in a role where independence is expected.
You will be part of a small and experienced team where collaboration is valued, but where each expert also carries clear ownership of their area. The role is well suited for someone who enjoys technically demanding work, continuous development, and contributing to systems that are both engineered and validated in practice.
What Sandvik offers
- A responsible senior expert role with clear ownership
- Technically demanding projects involving real systems and validation
- Opportunity to work at the intersection of design, testing and development
- A global technology company with long-term career opportunities.
Application process
We encourage you to apply as soon as possible, as the process will move forward during the coming weeks. The aim is to have the selected candidate in place during late summer or early autumn.
The recruitment is carried out by Barona Engineering in cooperation with Sandvik. Please note that, due to GDPR regulations, we do not process applications sent via email.
