As Legal Counsel, Engine Power Plants, you will handle various types of legal and compliance matters in relation to the Engine Power Plants business, primarily in the Africa & Europe Area. This role is focused on drafting and negotiating equipment supply and EPC contracts with our customers and their advisors, as well as resolving legal issues that may arise in project execution. You will also review and negotiate procurement contracts and advise business on any other legal and compliance matters. You will be part of a global legal team and report to the Head of Legal, Engine Power Plants in Wärtsilä Energy Business.
The preferred locations are Helsinki, Vaasa and Turku in Finland. We offer a flexible hybrid working model.
Your work will focus on these responsibilities:
- Provide solution-oriented and proactive legal and compliance support to the Engine Power Plant Business.
- Review, negotiate, draft and advise on various types of transactions and commercial contracts, including equipment supply and EPC contracts with customers and subcontracts and procurement contracts with the supply chain.
- Provide legal support to project execution teams and resolve claims and disputes.
- Provide governance and compliance support to business.
- Actively participate in the development of new business concepts and initiatives, as well as to the development and implementation of policies, work processes and contract templates.
To succeed in the position, we expect you to meet the following requirements:
- Qualified to practise law in a relevant civil or common law jurisdiction, with a law degree from a reputable university.
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience in either an in-house or a private practice role, with experience in commercial or corporate transactions in international setting. Experience from energy sector is seen as a plus.
- Excellent command of English; ability to draft and negotiate. Other language skills are a plus.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills coupled with commercial acumen and strategic thinking.
- Solid drafting, presentation and communication skills. You can translate complicated legal matters to business stakeholders in an understandable way.
- Good time management skills: ability to navigate through different priorities.
- Good initiative, a strong sense of ethics and the ability to balance risk to Wärtsilä with win-win solutions for our customer
- Can-do attitude combined with an innovative mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo.
- Team oriented with a positive attitude, ability to work in a multi-cultural organisation and virtual teams.
- Readiness to travel.
