Chief/Senior Engineer, Software
Etteplan is a leading engineering services company specializing in software and embedded systems for industrial and connected products. We are looking for an experienced and motivated professional to join our Embedded Software & Connectivity organization, focused on cybersecurity implementation embedded systems.
About the Role
As a Chief or Senior Software Engineer in Cybersecurity, you will play a key role in designing and implementing secure embedded software solutions for our customers. You will work across diverse industries and project environments, contributing to the full software lifecycle from architecture through implementation and verification. Your work will have direct impact on the security posture of connected and safety-critical products.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement cybersecurity solutions for embedded systems and connected products
- Conduct threat modeling, security risk assessments, and vulnerability analysis on embedded platforms
- Implement secure coding practices in C and modern C++ (C++17/20) across diverse MCU platforms
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, systems architects, and QA
- Support customers in meeting regulatory requirements, including Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) obligations
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to accelerate secure development workflows
- Contribute to internal cybersecurity competence development and best practices documentation
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in embedded C and modern C++ (C++14/17/20), with a strong emphasis on safe and secure coding standards (MISRA C/C++, SEI CERT)
- Hands-on experience with MCUs from multiple vendors, including NXP, Texas Instruments (TI), and STMicroelectronics (STM32)
- Solid understanding of embedded software architecture, RTOS environments (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, Mbed OS), and bare-metal development
- Experience implementing cryptographic protocols, secure boot, secure firmware update mechanisms, and hardware security modules (HSM/TPM)
- Familiarity with communication security for embedded systems (TLS/DTLS, MQTT with security, secure CAN/LIN/Ethernet)
- Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and/or Claude Code
- Proficiency with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices in an embedded context
Standards & Regulatory Awareness
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity standards relevant to embedded and connected products: IEC 62443-4-1/2, ISO/SAE 21434, EN 18031-1-1/2/3, IEC 81001-5-1
- Understanding of the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) requirements and their practical implications for product development
- Awareness of functional safety standards (IEC 61508, ISO 26262) and their intersection with cybersecurity
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in embedded software development, with at least 2 years focused on cybersecurity implementation
- Demonstrated experience delivering secure embedded solutions in regulated or safety-critical industries
- Previous experience working as a consultant is considered an advantage
