Hello future LUT Summer Trainee!
Would you like to work at a university during summer 2026 and gain hands-on experience in software engineering in an academic environment? We are looking for a LUT Summer Trainee to work as a Junior Research Assistant in the Software Engineering unit at LUT School of Engineering Sciences (LENS) in Lahti.
The position is located in the Software Engineering department at LUT University. The role combines practical software engineering tasks with teaching and research support, offering a unique opportunity to deepen your technical skills while working closely with academic staff.
What will your work include
As a Summer Trainee, you will work on a personal work project that supports the department's teaching and research infrastructure under the supervision of a senior staff member. The content of the project is agreed based on your background and interests.
Your tasks may include programming-related work, testing and evaluating new teaching tools and platforms, or participating in software engineering-related research activities in research labs. In addition, you are expected to support summer semester teaching by working as a teaching assistant and overseeing Moodle course areas for self-study summer versions of Software Engineering degree programme courses.
Depending on your study situation, you may also use part of your working time to complete courses towards your ongoing LUT degree or work on your Bachelor's or master's thesis during the summer.
What do we expect from you
You are a LUT student majoring in Software Engineering and are eligible to start Bachelor's or master's thesis work during the Summer semester, or you have already started thesis work under the supervision of the Software Engineering department.
Previous success in studies, especially in programming-related courses, is considered an advantage. You are motivated to develop your skills, work independently when needed, and collaborate with academic staff. The working language of the position is English, so good written and spoken English skills are required.
What do we offer you
As a LUT Summer Trainee, you will gain practical experience in a university software engineering environment and develop new technical and academic skills. You will work closely with experienced researchers and teachers and gain insight into how teaching, research, and software engineering practices are combined in a university department.
Your main work location is the Lahti campus. During the summer, partial hybrid work is also possible.
You can start the position in June and work until the end of August. The start and end dates can be agreed based on your preferences, but we expect you to work for the full agreed summer employment period.
The salary for a research assistant is based on the number of completed study credits (ECTS) at the time the employment contract is signed and ranges from EUR 2,190 to EUR 2,530 per month. The weekly working time is 36 hours and 15 minutes.
At the beginning of the summer, you will participate in a joint Summer Trainee orientation day and get to know other LUT Summer Trainees.
