Hello future LUT Summer Trainee!
Would you like to work at a university during summer 2026 and take part in research related to topical themes in electric mobility? We are looking for a LUT Summer Trainee to work as a Junior Research Assistant in the activities of EMRC (Electric Mobility Research Center) for summer 2026.
The position is located at the LUT School of Engineering Sciences (LENS) and carried out as part of the activities of the Electric Mobility Research Center (EMRC). EMRC focuses on research related to electric mobility and works in close cooperation with companies and other stakeholders.
What will your work include
As a Summer Trainee, you will work as part of the EMRC team on data-driven research tasks related to electric mobility. Your work will focus on collecting, processing, and analyzing data related to electric vehicle usage, charging behavior, charging infrastructure, and energy systems. You will work with datasets from various sources and support the analysis of mobility and charging patterns.
In this role, you will contribute to data collection, data analysis, visualization, and the preparation of analytical outputs that support research activities and pilot projects. Your tasks may include developing figures, charts, and dashboards, as well as supporting modelling and simulation work related to electric mobility systems. You will also participate in preparing reports and presentations for research projects, company partners, and other stakeholders. When needed, you will support EMRC staff with data-related tasks and technical analyses related to different technologies.
What do we expect from you
You are a LUT student and have completed at least your second year of bachelor's studies or are further along in your studies. You have strong analytical skills and an interest in working with data, as well as the ability to structure and interpret data in a clear and meaningful way.
You are interested in sustainability, the energy transition, and new technologies, and you are motivated to apply data-driven approaches to research questions related to electric mobility. The role requires familiarity with data analysis and programming tools, such as Python, MATLAB, or similar, as well as basic understanding of data processing and visualization.
You will work in an international environment, so fluent spoken and written English skills are essential for the position.
What do we offer you
As a LUT Summer Trainee, you will work at the intersection of research, data analytics, and industry collaboration, gaining hands-on experience in data-driven research within an expert research community. The position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your technical, analytical, and research skills in a real-world research environment.
Your main work location is either at Lahti or Lappeenranta campus. During the summer, partial hybrid work is also possible.
You can start the position in May and work until the end of August. The start and end dates can be agreed based on your preferences, but we expect you to work for the full agreed summer employment period.
The salary for a research assistant is based on the number of completed study credits (ECTS) at the time the employment contract is signed and ranges from EUR 2,190 to EUR 2,530 per month. The weekly working time is 36 hours and 15 minutes.
At the beginning of the summer, you will participate in a joint Summer Trainee orientation day and get to know other LUT Summer Trainees.
