CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation is an independent organization that works to prevent and resolve conflicts through dialogue and mediation. Founded in 2000 by Nobel Peace Laureate and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari, we have since grown to be a leader in the field of international peacemaking.
CMI is now seeking an experienced Security Manager to join our Quality Assurance and Risk Management (QARM) team for a fixed-term period of eight (8) months, covering a leave of absence. The role is central to safeguarding CMI's teams as they engage in dialogue and mediation work across some of the most complex operating environments in the world.
About the role
The Security Manager manages and carries out CMI’s safety, security and work travel-related information security risk management processes, and supports the CMI leadership, management, and all staff in security and safety matters. The role reports to the Head, Quality Assurance and Risk Management and works closely with the implementing teams.
CMI's duty-of-care model is built around four duties — Information, Prevention, Monitoring and Intervention — set out in the CMI Safety and Security Policy and complemented by CMI's Risk Management Policy. The Security Manager is a key operational owner of this framework and works with external partners that provide 24/7 security and medical information and assistance, and travel insurance. When required, the Security Manager works with other specialized private security service providers. The role requires occasional travel to field locations, including high-risk environments.
Your key responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day safety and security risk management across CMI's global programme, in line with CMI's policies and duty-of-care framework.
- Provide security clearance and mission-planning support for duty travel, including comprehensive planning for high-risk and extreme-risk missions.
- Advise all staff and consultants on personal safety, travel security and information security in the field, and conduct pre-departure briefings and post-mission debriefs.
- Provide advise on field-mission information security, including secure communications, information handling and digital hygiene in sensitive operating contexts.
- Act as CMI's operational focal point with security assistance /insurance partners, ensuring effective assistance to travellers while maintaining CMI's own duty-of-care responsibilities.
- Support incident preparedness and response, including the provision of training and guidance on incident management.
- Coordinate travel-security training with external partners
- Contribute to CMI's risk management and reporting and organisational learning.
- Participate in relevant international security networks.
What we are looking for
- At least five years of practical experience in safety and security management, , within an international NGO, humanitarian, development, diplomatic or peacebuilding organisation, or comparative experience in other relevant sectors.
- Demonstrated field experience in conflict-affected or fragile contexts, including familiarity with high-risk mission planning and implementation.
- Solid working knowledge of NGO duty-of-care frameworks and travel risk management standards (e.g., ISO 31030), and practical experience with globally recognised security/medical assistance providers.
- Sound understanding of information security in the context of field missions and duty travel (secure communications, data handling in sensitive contexts, digital hygiene).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust across a diverse international team.
- Capacity to lead the day-to-day work independently, while keeping relevant colleagues informed
- Strong analytical and writing skills, confident IT user, and fluent written and spoken English. Additional languages are considered an asset.
- A higher education degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional qualifications combined with relevant experience.

- Contract type: Fixed-term employment agreement (family leave replacement), 8 months (including induction and handover with preferred start in mid-December 2026).

- CMI’s main working language is English.
- This position requires a valid right to work in Finland, that enables full‑time employment.
- The salary of this position is based on CMI’s salary scale.
