We are looking for a Chief Commissioning Engineer, Plant Automation with a main responsibility in Energy New Build Plant Automation Commissioning. The preferred location for this position is Vaasa, Finland, but Turku and Helsinki, Finland, are also negotiable. We offer the possibility of hybrid work. This role involves frequent travel, up to 80% of the time.
The competence areas are various PLC Automation Systems, Network systems, server‑based HMI - SWOIS.
Your work will focus on these responsibilities:
- Plant automation testing and commissioning
- Perform maintenance and/or troubleshooting on Wärtsilä products
- Perform installation supervision and commissioning works of Wärtsilä power plant installations
- Participate in the improvement of new products when performing warranty activities
- Identify failures, adjust, assist in testing installations according to instructions
- Provide internal and external work reports according to Wärtsilä standards
Control systems engineering, electrical & automation:
- Siemens Step 7, Siemens Step 7 V13 TIA Portal, Modicon Unity
- Knowledge of network IPs, ring switches, and routers
- Server environment, Microsoft Hyper‑V
- Knowledge of PLC networks CAN Bus, Modbus, and Profibus
- In addition, knowledge of Wärtsilä UNIC / SWOIS is considered an advantage
- Virtualization, knowledge of networking
To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:
- BSc. or MSc. degree in Engineering
- At least 5+ years of experience with Wärtsilä products, especially different plant automation systems, HMI systems, network devices, etc.
- Knowledge of automation processes, tuning, and adjusting needs to be at an expert level
- Knowledge of plant automation software
- A proactive, analytical, and solution‑oriented mindset, with a strong sense of ownership and a can‑do attitude
- Good communication and presentation skills, enabling effective collaboration with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders
- A team‑oriented approach, combined with the flexibility to adapt and perform in fast‑changing, multicultural, and challenging environments
- Prior experience with Wärtsilä 4‑stroke engines or related power plant technologies is considered a strong advantage
