We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and flexible Global Data Privacy Manager, HR to work in the corporate Data Privacy Office. You can locate in any of our European offices.
In this role, you will focus on one of our most sensitive and impactful areas: the privacy and protection of our employees' personal data. Working closely with HR, Legal, Cyber Security, and Information Management, you will ensure that employee data is managed responsibly and transparently in a global setting. This position offers the chance to shape how privacy by design is embedded into global HR initiatives such as payroll, recruitment, and employee analytics, while enabling the business to use data and new technologies in a secure and ethical way.
As the Global Data Privacy Manager HR, you will primarily support the Human Resources department with all Data Privacy and Personal Data Protection matters relevant to the privacy and protection of our employee's personal data.
This is an exciting opportunity to support the development of key Human Resources initiatives in a global company, ensuring effective cross-function working with stakeholders across the organisation in the execution and support of employee data privacy processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Data Privacy Office in the development, implementation, and management of frameworks to comply with Data Privacy & Personal Data Protection Laws, with a primary focus on employee data and HR-related processes
- Assist in Incident Response processes related to Personal Data Breaches involving employee data, including investigation, internal reporting, and recommending controls to prevent recurrence, while coordinating with HR and other relevant teams
- Help develop and maintain compliance templates & clauses specific to employee data and HR activities, and provide guidance on their negotiation and execution in employee data contexts
- Manage and respond to privacy-related requests from employees (e.g., access, deletion, rectification), ensuring timely compliance; support responses to employee data access requests from law enforcement and authorities, in collaboration with HR
- Advise HR and Wärtsilä's Group Functions & Business Units on executing assessments for Data Privacy Laws, such as Privacy Impact Assessments, Legitimate Interest Assessments, Transfer Impact Assessments, and AI Impact Assessments, emphasizing privacy by design in HR projects like recruitment, payroll, and employee analytics
- Provide expertise on implementing transparency controls for employee data, including privacy notices, consent mechanisms, and AI transparency notices, ensuring they are updated to align with relevant Data Privacy Laws and integrated into HR systems and activities
- Maintain documentation of employee personal data processing activities to support a comprehensive inventory (e.g., RoPa), focusing on HR-specific data flows and ensuring privacy by design principles are embedded from the outset
- Contribute to informing internal governance committees on Data Privacy matters related to employee data, and collaborate with Information Management, Cyber Security, HR, and other functions to align on obligations, safeguards, and measures
- Assist in developing, rolling out, and updating training & awareness programs tailored for HR staff and employees on data privacy, with an emphasis on employee data handling and privacy by design
- Support periodic monitoring of controls for Data Privacy Law compliance, particularly in HR contexts, and coordinate with key teams including HR, Information Management, and Cyber Security on cross-company privacy initiatives
Who are we looking for?
You are a practitioner with hands-on experience in implementing global data privacy solutions, particularly for HR processes such as payroll and recruitment. You thrive in a multinational setting, bridging gaps between HR, legal, and technology stakeholders, and you bring both legal expertise and practical implementation skills. You understand GDPR and broader international privacy regimes, and you know how to balance compliance with business needs. Rather than acting as a "privacy police," you act as a business partner-helping HR and the wider organization to make change happen in a secure, systematic, and ethical way. Your interpersonal skills, proactive approach, and ability to bring clarity to complex challenges will help you succeed in this role.
Requirements:
- Solid knowledge of Data Privacy laws and practices, with a strong emphasis on employee personal data; understanding of third-party data regimes and international privacy laws (e.g., China, US) is advantageous
- Experience supporting or executing Data Privacy projects in a multinational organization, ideally with a focus on HR or employee-related matters
- Holding privacy-related certifications (e.g., CIPM, CIPP) or equivalent qualifications
- Experience promoting data privacy awareness in a large organization, particularly addressing issues with employee personal data and integrating privacy by design into operational processes
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
- Experience advising on AI, data security, and privacy by design in HR contexts is preferred
- Law degree or relevant qualification with 5+ years of experience in data protection and privacy, preferably supporting HR functions
- Proficiency in office applications (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint); familiarity with HR systems or tools like ServiceNow is advantageous
- Fluent spoken and written English; strong communication skills to collaborate and interact with various stakeholders
- Ability to work independently with guidance from management, high attention to detail, and capacity to balance HR-specific and cross-company priorities
- Well-organized, with strong time management skills, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to handle multiple tasks flexibly in a team environment across all organizational levels
